CommTool#8: “Now HEAR THIS My Dear Mind!”

Did you know that key words in the spoken language you commonly use are “command words” that energize your mind to faithfully comply with hidden instructions? Yep. It’s true, and there’s nothing crazy about it. These “broadcast commands/words” use “code words” that include UNTIL… BUT… SHOULD… HARD… NOT… IT’S… YOU’RE… just to name seven. Your mind delivers what you instruct it to, so if you don’t pay attention to what you’re saying, you can end up where you don’t want to go!

The purpose of CommTool #8: NOW HEAR THIS MY DEAR MIND! is to disrupt the “programming” that tells your mind and emotions where they ought to go, with or without your conscious consent. As you implement this tool, you will become more aware and in-charge of your mood…way TOO cool.

Here’s how TAKING CHARGE OF YOUR HAPPINESS works:

UNTIL all this stress is settled…I can’t relax. Calls for this negative program to be run by your mind: “You can’t relax until your life is perfect or all the work to be done is done!” TALK BACK: Now HEAR THIS! I’m going to feel the UNhappiness and do IT (happiness) anyway!

BUT nothing works. Calls for this negative program to be run by your mind: “You can’t change so just put up with frustrations and shut your yapping hole!” TALK BACK: Now HEAR THIS! I’m going to feel the UNhappiness and do IT (happiness) anyway!

SHOULDN’T I be better off financially by now? Calls for this negative program to be run: “You shouldn’t improve your financial life now or ever!” TALK BACK: Now HEAR THIS! I’m going to feel the UNhappiness and do IT (happiness) anyway!

It’s so HARD. Calls for this negative program to be run by your mind: “You must keep doing what doesn’t work and continue to drain your energy battery!” TALK BACK: Now HEAR THIS! I’m going to feel the UNhappiness and do IT (happiness) anyway!

NOT that I’m saying you don’t know what you’re talking about. Calls for this negative program to be run by your mind: “You don’t know what you’re talking about so just back off and back down from this point on!” TALK BACK: Now HEAR THIS! I’m going to feel the UNhappiness and do IT (happiness) anyway!

IT’S not my problem! Calls for this negative program to be run by your mind: “You aren’t part of this problem so you can’t be part of the solution!” TALK BACK: Now HEAR THIS! I’m going to feel the UNhappiness and do IT (happiness) anyway!

YOU’RE not listening! Calls for this negative program to be run by your mind: “I don’t really expect you to be curious about me, listen to me, or be changed by listening to my ‘words of wisdom.’” TALK BACK: Now HEAR THIS! I’m going to feel the UNhappiness and do IT (happiness) anyway!

Dr. Phil is famous for saying, “How’s IT workin’ for you?” I equally love this problem solving angle, “How’s IT feelin’ for you?” If certain words run a “bad mood program” then why focus on them?

DARE TO CARE. Take the challenge. Listen to these five “key command words” as you sail through your communication day and see how you FEEL about them: UNTIL…BUT…SHOULD…NOT…HARD…IT’S…YOU’RE…

All I have to say is, “BUT it shouldn’t be this hard until you’re…” Hey, I’m just joking! Now HEAR THIS my dear mind! I’m going to feel the UNhappiness BUT do IT (happiness) any way I CAN! Catch my drift?

Dr. Dennis O’Grady is has developed these CommTools to make you feel and think differently about who is in charge of your mood.   1. You aren’t a Rip Van Winkle who is asleep leaning against the tree of life. Your words have power. 83% of the time you are talking silently to yourself. Why not listen in to what you are saying to yourself and thus encourage your mind to be more productive, positively charged and effective? After all, you can’t wait until your life is perfect to experience happiness and contentment…or your waiting will grow into the long gray beard of regret, impatience and irritation.

Someone very dear to me once told me to “Smile, it will make you happy.”  I follow that advice as often as I think about being “down.”  It’s “hard,” and it feels uncomfortable, but when I “do” it, I begin to feel better. It doesn’t matter whether I believe smiling can help or not. The very act of doing it makes it happen.-Eric
