My comment is one that I'm working with everyone to try to address at work. Fixing the PROBLEM, not the PERSON. Nobody likes to hear that they need to be "fixed." If we can find ways to focus on the issues and systems, then nobody has to take constructive suggestions as personal attacks.

As far as the "elephant in the room" goes, I have always believed in saying what needs to be said. Of course, you should try to be diplomatic and constructive about candid communication, but some things are going to be taken personally or will hurt no matter how they are presented. I still think that in most cases, the discussions must take place. The exception would be when no good can come from negative talk and that harm to a person's psyche or your relationship will be done with little or no upside. If damage to person or property is involved, there is no choice but to address it.

Are you more sensitive or insensitive? Empathizer communicators more easily "pick up" a negative passenger who talks non-stop about all sorts of negative things that will really rarely ever come true. In contrast, their tough-minded and thicker-skinned Instigator colleagues don't feel as guilty clicking off the negative news stations on the company radio. Both communicator driver's need to "drop off" a negative passenger who stands against making good things happen in the workplace or the lovespace.
